Giving good advice
Giving good advice is one of the best things we can do for the people around us. Giving good advice helps improve other's situations and gives them tips on how to do things in an easier manner. Giving good advice is very helpful but for many of us we feel that we may be interfering in someone else's business or 'dictating' them on what to do.
Advice giving is not like that but it is a tool that helps us improve someone else's circumstance. People come to each other seeking advice or a situation is calling on someone to make the call and give advice.
This means that we always have to keep in mind that are aim is to improve the situation of another and that we should be able to give them advice, whether they ask for it or not .
Sometimes we may question ourselves and think what happens if the person does not take the advice or becomes hostile but we should not let such ideas cloud our judgement. Our job is to give the advice and it is up to the individual if they want to take it or not, giving advice is not to push one to accept but give them a helpful suggestion that they take into consideration with hopes that they do accept it. Sometimes you may feel that this individual does not care about your advice but you may see that years down the line they took the advice pr even remind you of how your advice has helped them. If you shy away or keep such ideas them you miss on an opportunity to help someone who deep down may be asking why are you not offering help. Also to make the good advice count and to make sure that a person does not feel intimidated and instantly reject you, give them advice in private so that they may take your words into consideration and do not push them to accept what your saying with your language or tone of voice.
There is an Islamic saying that states that 'advice in front of people is embarrassment'. This meaning that a person can feel embarrassed and immediately reject you.
In Islam giving good advice is recommended as the prophet (s.a.w) said that good advice is for all people. This is because in Islam we are to help those who are need of assistance and good advice is great assistance.
So the next time you doubt on giving advice, remember that you are missing on an opportunity to help and that even if you are rejected today, your words may make sense tomorrow.
