Be Thankful

Sometimes as people we are the ones who burden ourselves in ways that are not necessary and one of the biggest ways we do is by aiming to be what we are not.
We love to be what we are not, trying to be a person that is not us by wearing the mask of another. We do not develop our sense of self but try to live the life of another and this leads us to insecurities and self-doubt. The reason for this is that we want to live the life of another by burying the real us deep inside and each time the real us stares at us, we continue to lock it up by looking for more things and others techniques on how they live.

This leads us to something called overconsumption and begin to hurt ourselves as we always want what we do not have but are never thankful for what we already have. We may be healthy, fit, have the necessities in our lives but we continue to see our lives empty because we are focused on what’s missing, not what’s already there. This leads to overconsumption as we believe that things are missing from our lives while there really is not.

If we sit down for a second and begin to look at what we have, we will realise that there are so many things to be thank full for, but we oftenly want to be thankful and mindful when we lose the thing we had. When we lose something valuable, we raise how good we have had it but that is something we should not teach ourselves. We should be able to be thankful and mindful of how full our lives are without having to lose things in our lives. In Islam, we are encouraged to visit hospitals and the sick so we can be thankful for the health and functionality we have. We are also told in Islam to observe those below us who struggle to get through the day so that we can be thankful for our blessings. We have been told on the other hand to avoid attaching ourselves to what the wealthy have because we will only complain for the things that we do not have and forget what we already have.

By doing this It makes us realise that why are we crying for more when we already have the necessities to survive while others do not. We will feel less insecure, reduce our consumption when we realise that there is more to life than having but being mindful and thankful for every little thing that we have.
