Kindness to parents

In our lives there are people who strive hard to make us happy and try to give us the pleasures of life we desire. They make it their aim to make our lives complete even if it leaves them empty or even to their graves or in bed. For them, our happiness is their happiness and when we are down they feel down too and try to cheer us up.  When the whole world locks their door from us and slams the door in our faces they are the only ones who will keep their doors open and draw us close. There is nobody who could make the sacrifices our parents to make us happy and make our life easy for us and that is why we are told to be kind and respectful to them.

We are told multiple times to respect and show kindness to them:

"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small." (Isra 23-24)

Parents spend their entire lives raising and caring for their kids, however there comes a time when this reverses and parents are now in need of care and nurture. We are obliged to give them this care and although we cannot return the favour in the same manner they showed kindness to us, we can still show them that we are appreciative of the things they have done for us. The biggest way we can show respect and kindness is by showing respect, by saying a kind word or having patience for their feeble weaknesses and forgetfulness we would receive the same conduct for our future offspring. Parents have been patient for our flaws and mistakes growing up and would let them off with a smile, if they can do so can we. We can at least try to show gratitude for all their life sacrifices and their supportive role in helping us become the person we are.
