Is being a teenager the most Challenging thing in the world part 3

If you look at a variety of Disney movies you see that parents are either not present or alive such as Frozen, and the Lion king 1 or display parental disobedience such as the little mermaid and the lady and the Tramp 2 and Lion king 2. They can even be dream killers and demotivate their kids such as Zootopia, there are many movies and cartoons which portray this separating bond between kids and parents and these subliminal messages play a bad role in how kids perceive their parents.

In movies where parents are technically killed off such as Frozen and the lion king, we see young kids and a cub whom have to find their own place in the world.
In Frozen for instance, Elsa has powers that turs things into ice, well you all probably have memorised the movie by now. However, her parents tell her to conceal her powers and not show them, they lock the gates and she stays in her room and probably wanted to stay in there till the end of time. What Elsa’s parents do only makes her freak out more and she becomes a nervous wreck who believes that she is a danger to the world around her. In this painful condition Disney wipes Elsa’s parents from the movie and she is alone with her fears.

Although her parents felt like they were doing the right thing they technically destroyed Elsa because they did not teach her to embrace who she is but to conceal herself and not let the public know. So in short sweet words her parents are saying ‘Sweetie you are a danger and you have to hide yourself and who you are so you don’t hurt anyone and yourself’. Elsa learns in the end that she rather has to be herself and use what she is to the benefit of others and accept who she is because she can’t change what she is but can only accept it. Elsa learns this after her parent’s death and technically wiping them out was a good thing for Elsa or she probably would have rotted in her room and refused to accept who she really was.  This idea presents that parents don’t have the right solutions for you and even mislead you, so there is no point to listen to the advises they give you.

However, even if this is the case they do not show how should a child deal with this and how to tell their parents what they think because simply wiping parents out with death does not solve anything.

Simba is another character who has to deal with a similar scenario. Simba’s father Mufasa is a typical father who is protective of his son. He teaches him about what a king does and the circle of life but Disney also saw it better to wipe him out. Mufasa dies in a stampede and Simba is left alone believing he killed his father. Simba learns about the world around him makes new friends and fights for his right to the throne. Mufasa dying was also a good thing for Simba as he also went on the path to self-discovery and had a practical experience on how to claim his spot as king. If under his father he would probably would not have the experience and courage to lead as he would be under his protective father.

This presents the idea that parents are overprotective and would not want you to explore the outside world just as Ariel’s father who did not her to explore the land above sea because merpeople and humans do not mix. They teach kids to be independent and explore the world around you and not to let anyone stand in front of your decisions just like Scamp in the lady and the Tramp 2.

Movies such as Zootopia also show parents as helpless beings who do seem to destroy their daughter Judy's dreams. Her parents constantly tell her that there is nothing called a 'Bunny cop' and she should follow in her family's profession of carrot farming.through her own self-motivation and hard-work Judy fulfills her dreams to become the first rabbit cop, something her parents stated was impossible. Here are meant to believe parents can destroy their child's self-motivation but they teach it in the wrong manner. They do not teach the child how to express their views to their parents and how to reach a negotiation and understanding.

Thus they present the idea of individualism to kids and the need for the individual to attain self-pleasure. The individual must attain this self-happiness and ignore anything or anyone who want to stop him from reaching his desires, even if they are his parents.

That is why it is important for kids and teens to know that even if you chuck your parents into a corner, they are the only people who will stand by your side and that friends and society will dump you when you’re left with nothing. That is why it’s important to look at a movie or show beyond the humor and the touching moments and try to understand what they are really telling us because we tend to be what we are surrounded by and such stuff can have a negative impact on our well-being.
That’s why we will look at another aspect if not chosen carefully that can destroy us entirely, Friends……
